Joseph Merrick (The Elephant Man)
Joseph Merrick was born on August 5, 1862 in Leicester, England. His deformity began to develop at a very young age. His physical deformities were so extreme that he was force to become a resident of a workhouse at the age of 17. He successfully escaped the workhouse several years later and found his way into a human oddities show which he was exhibited as “The Elephant man”.
