Isaac Sprague was born on May 21, 1841 in East Bridgewater, Massachusettes. He was a normal child until the age of twelve and then after that he began to rapidly lose weight. His parents took him to the best doctors they could find but despite Isaac having a healthy appetite, he kept on losing weight. As an adult, he apprenticed under his father as a cobbler and later on worked as a grocer but his energy depleted that he needed to stop working. In 1865, during a visit to a local carnival, a promoter offered him a job and began touring as “The Living Skeleton” which he quickly became famous.
