20 Scary Images of the Creepiest Asylum Ever Built

Overbrook Insane Asylum – Cedar Grove, New Jersey

The asylum housed mentally ill patients who required daily care. The facility was so large that they even had their own train stop. Patients were fed largely by food grown in huge farming field located on the hospital’s property, which they also worked as part of their rehabilitative occupational therapy. Throughout the 1960’s and 70’s, the introduction of new medications meant that mental hospitals and their methodologies were quickly becoming outdated. The hospital was closed down in 2007 and it seems that local lore has been quick to populate them with unexplainable voices, vengeful spirits and mysterious presences.
